During the 2015/16 season, Stuttgarter Kickers experienced one of the cruellest possible relegations. Werder Bremen II managed to retain their status by virtue of scoring more goals than Stuttgarter Kickers. The two sides both accumulated 43 points and shared an identical goal difference of -14, however Werder II's 42 goals proved superior to Stuttgarter Kickers' 38 goals, allowing Werder II to secure 17th place in the table. Since that campaign, Stuttgarter Kickers have not competed in any professional league.
