The 2015/16 season brought Stuttgarter Kickers one of the cruellest relegations possible. Werder Bremen II managed to secure their stay by virtue of having netted more goals than Stuttgarter Kickers. The two sides were level on 43 points with an identical goal difference of -14, however Werder II's 42 goals proved decisive against Stuttgarter Kickers' tally of 38, allowing Werder II to claim 17th place in the standings. Since that time, Stuttgarter Kickers have been absent from professional football.
