Real Madrid 2016-17 Special Kit
Real Madrid will don the Adidas Parley Kit 16/17 during their match against Real Sporting de Gijón on Saturday 26 November. Constructed using Parley Ocean Plastic—reclaimed marine plastic refuse transformed into fabric—and featuring water-based sustainable printing techniques, this all-white jersey displays the team's crest, adidas three stripes, and commercial partner insignia in matching white tones, creating a distinctive aesthetic. Heavy rainfall at the Santiago Bernabéu caused an unexpected issue: the special edition Parley shirt turned transparent because the tonal design, fabricated from recycled plastic harvested in the Indian Ocean, proved excessively see-through. The subtle adidas emblem, Real Madrid badge, and Fly Emirates branding—typically presented in off-white tonal styling—became virtually invisible, ultimately leaving the players with shirts that appeared plainly white. Production of each shirt required 28 recovered bottles sourced from the Indian Ocean. Equipping the entire Real Madrid squad necessitated extracting a combined 308 bottles from the ocean. The kit delivered a pleasingly vintage character throughout, despite the garments unexpectedly becoming somewhat translucent.
