This marked the inaugural home kit worn by RB Leipzig throughout their brief existence. During their first campaign, they secured promotion from the Oberliga (fifth tier) to the Regionalliga (fourth tier). Following several seasons of competition, the club was compelled to modify both their logo and name in accordance with DFL rules governing the 1. and 2. Bundesliga. The RB designation underwent transformation from "Red Bull" to "Rasenballsport" (meaning "Lawnballsport" in German), and they were required to eliminate Red Bull's emblem from their club crest.
