The 2012–13 campaign represented Chelsea Football Club's 99th season of competitive play, their 24th successive season competing in England's top flight, their 21st successive season in the Premier League, and their 107th year of operation as a football club. Following Chelsea's maiden UEFA Champions League triumph in 2011–12, they earned qualification for both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup of that season. However, due to finishing in third place within their Champions League group, Chelsea took part in the UEFA Europa League for the first time since 2002–03, when it was previously called the UEFA Cup.
