Liverpool and Adidas have released the home shirt for the 2026/27 season. The kit uses an Active Maroon base, a deep red tone, and builds on it with an all-over geometric graphic that directly references one of the most celebrated shirts in the club's history.

The design

The shirt carries an all-over geometric graphic made up of white line details and triangular forms across the body. The pattern is a deliberate reference to the 1989-90 league title-winning season shirt, one of the most iconic kits in English football. White trim appears on the collar and cuffs, and the Adidas Three Stripes run across the shoulders. Standard Chartered appears on the front as shirt sponsor, with Expedia on the sleeve.

The name and number style is based on the club typeface, drawn from the shape of the Liver bird. A "97" detail sits below the collar on the upper back. Two versions are available: the Authentic uses jacquard fabric with Climacool+ technology and a heat-applied federation badge, while the replica uses interlock fabric with standard Climacool. The full kit pairs the shirt with Active Maroon shorts and matching socks.

The story

The 1989-90 Liverpool side won the First Division title with 79 points, finishing nine points ahead of Aston Villa. That season's shirt, with its geometric patterning and candy-stripe quality, has remained one of the most collected Liverpool kits. The 2026/27 release brings that visual language back with a modern fabric interpretation.

The "97" detail inside the collar is a continuation of the tribute to the 97 victims of the Hillsborough disaster that Liverpool have included in recent kits. The geometric graphic, the Liver bird-derived squad number font, and that detail make this a shirt with several distinct layers of meaning beyond the immediate design.
